Vision-Based Path Guidance to Achieve Dies-Free Roller Hemming Process

Due to its high production flexibility, roller hemming has become the mainstream process for forming and joining metal sheets in automotive industry. The traditional requires specific dies support sheet parts repeated offline manual adjustment of routes, resulting die costs, time consumption, excessive labor inputs. universal platform presented this paper could replace effectively reduce costs expand flexibility. To reach objective, a vision-based automatic compensation path achieve dies-free is proposed investigated paper. Hand–eye sensor modules assisted by multi-coordinate synchronization calibration were designed reconstruct three-dimensional (3-D) shape data incoming materials. Results from system validated with experimental measurements offset arm position, showing that single-axis error can be reduced ≤0.1 mm.
